			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Sandra Bullock,</strong> best known for her roles in syrupy and quirky romantic comedies, <a href="http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2010/03/sandra-bullock-brings-oscars-audience-to-its-feet/1""target=_blank">nabbed an Oscar for Best Actress at last night&#8217;s Academy Awards</a> <strong>for her leading role in The Blind Side</strong>. (Watch the acceptance speech <a href="http://oscar.go.com/video/index?playlistId=253172&#038;clipId=253249""target=_blank">here</a>.)</p>
<p><strong>Unlike some of the previous <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Actress#Winners_and_nominees""target=_blank">winners</a> who have played the worst among us, she portrays a Christian woman, <a href="http://www.religionnews.com/index.php?/tenminutes/10_minutes_with_leigh_anne_tuohy1/""target=_blank">Leigh Anne Tuohy</a>, whose life is <a href="http://www.sheknows.com/articles/812147""target=_blank">transformed</a> by taking in a troubled teenager, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FhlbsJUJ9Q&#038;feature=related""target=_blank">Michael Oher</a></strong>. Their story cannot possibly be captured in 126 minutes. (Whose life can?) But in those fast, action-filled minutes, The Blind Side does a fantastic job of trying!</p>
<p><strong>Typically, an actress takes home awards for &#8220;pushing the envelope&#8221; or &#8220;choosing artistry over modesty&#8221; so it&#8217;s refreshing when an actress is lauded for her portrayal of an unapologetic, strong-willed Christian woman.</strong> (Republican, even. Gasp!)</p>
<p><strong>As you&#8217;ll see in the clip below of different cast members reflecting on the movie, Sandra Bullock was hesitant to be cast as Leigh Anne Tuohy; first, because Leigh Anne is a Christian and second, because she doesn&#8217;t apologize for who she is.</strong></p>
<p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7_KUdF2EFng&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7_KUdF2EFng&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></p>
<p><strong>If the scenes from the movie don&#8217;t move you, I have serious concerns about the condition of your heart. No, it&#8217;s not something a good statin can fix.</strong> If your heart isn&#8217;t tender, it will skip over the selflessness of this family and look for reasons to hate it. <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2009-04-23-michael-oher-cover_N.htm""target=_blank">Michael Oher loves his family</a> and I can certainly see why. </p>
<p><Strong>After seeing The Blind Side together, I asked my 11 year old nephew what he thought about it as we left the movie theater. Without missing a beat, he responded, &#8220;That was probably the best movie I&#8217;ve ever seen.&#8221; (Take that, CGI!)</strong> Everyone I talked to who saw it were effusive in their praise of not just the movie but the strength of Leigh Anne Tuohy and Michael Oher&#8217;s sheer determination to survive and succeed. These are people you pull for in life. I can tell you that Michael Oher has more fans now that we know who he is! (Typically, my family identifies collegiate players and follows their NFL careers from there, making us more loyal towards particular players than franchises. We&#8217;re not Ole Miss fans so we wouldn&#8217;t have been familiar with him. I can tell you that we pulled for Michael Oher this season and were stoked when the Baltimore Ravens proceeded into the playoffs.) </p>
<p>As Leigh Anne Tuohy says, &#8220;<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u1F0ro-E_I&#038;NR=1""target=_blank">Lip service is easy.</a>&#8221; I have never met the Tuohys but as a fellow believer, I know their <em>demonstrated</em> love is a reminder to all of us: feeling love for others and giving love to others go hand in hand. May we never look past people in need but give freely and cheerfully &#8211; of our belongings, of our time and of our selves. </p>
<p><strong>I&#8217;m happy for Sandra Bullock. I&#8217;m more satisfied, however, that this giving Christian family has been brought to the forefront of American pop culture and Oscar history, where they most certainly belong.</strong></p>
<p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9FhlbsJUJ9Q&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9FhlbsJUJ9Q&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></p>
<p>Because I comment on politics in this blog, it&#8217;s only fitting that I show this clip. In a year when Obama&#8217;s approval rankings are tanking, unemployment is rising (though not &#8220;unexpectedly&#8221; as the media would have you believe), tea party patriots are being demeaned but not deterred and Republicans have been victorious in Liberal Massachusetts (&#8221;the bluest of blue states&#8221;), it is only fitting that the &#8220;Performance by an actress in a leading role&#8221; goes to a Sandra Bullock and her impeccable portrayal of a Christian, <em>Republican</em> woman. Below is a cute clip of Michael&#8217;s tutor when her opposing political leanings are revealed. There&#8217;s an even better line in the movie but I&#8217;ll leave that one for you to discover when you watch the full feature for yourselves. </p>
<div><object width="576" height="324"><param name="movie" value="http://d.yimg.com/m/up/ypp/movies/player.swf"></param><param name="flashVars" value="repeat=1&#038;vid=16446284&#038;"></param><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed width="576" height="324" allowFullScreen="true" src="http://d.yimg.com/m/up/ypp/movies/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="repeat=1&#038;vid=16446284&#038;"></embed></object></div>
<p><strong> There is only one thing left to do. Go see The Blind Side!</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.freestrongamerica.com/pa/ge/55/learn-about-mitt""target=_blank">Mitt Romney</a> addressed <a href="http://cpac.org/""target=_blank">CPAC</a> yesterday in a well-delivered and well-received speech. Romney has been embraced by CPAC the last few years and <a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0210/33161.html""target=_blank">this year is no exception</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Below are my favorite sound bites, mostly because of the mouth-watering red meat. Bon appetit! </strong></p>
<p>Just when everyone thinks Mitt is going to mention his encounter with the man on the airplane during he and his wife Ann&#8217;s <a href="http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/bureau-blog/romney-threatened-by-air-canada-passenger/article1469196/""target=_blank">return trip from the Winter Olympics in Vancouver</a>, he takes a sharp turn and lands a power punch:</p>
<p><a href='<object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'/><param name='movie' value='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=735&#038;end=785'/><param name='quality' value='high'/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=735&#038;end=785'/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=735&#038;end=785' base='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=735&#038;end=785' align='middle' height='500' width='410'></embed></object></a></p>
<p><strong>Romney then gives a shout-out to Massachusetts and the victory of <a href="http://theladypatriot.com/2010/01/19/massachusetts-this-browns-for-you/""target=_blank">Republican Scott Brown!</a></strong></p>
<p><object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'/><param name='movie' value='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=864&#038;end=922'/><param name='quality' value='high'/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=864&#038;end=922'/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=864&#038;end=922' base='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=864&#038;end=922' align='middle' height='500' width='410'></embed></object></p>
<p><strong>Then, like a teacher to his pupil, Romney reviews the failures of Obama&#8217;s first year and mocks his self-proclaimed grade of B+.</strong> The only thing that would have made his jab at Al Gore better is if he had replaced &#8220;the internet&#8221; with &#8220;global warming.&#8221; Romney has a way to go on unequivocally rejecting anthropogenic global warming <a href="http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/02/the_agw_smoking_gun.html""target=_blank">(AGW)</a> but maybe he&#8217;ll come around sooner rather than later. Time will certainly tell. At least he&#8217;s on record for being against Cap-and-Tax.</p>
<p><object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'/><param name='movie' value='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=929&#038;end=1002'/><param name='quality' value='high'/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=929&#038;end=1002'/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=929&#038;end=1002' base='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=929&#038;end=1002' align='middle' height='500' width='410'></embed></object></p>
<p><strong>Get my steak knife! Romney reminds us of Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito&#8217;s rebuke of President Obama during the State of the Union Address.</strong> If you haven&#8217;t watched <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2010/01/27/not-true-alito-mouths-words-as-obama-hammers-supreme-court/""target=_blank">Alito mouthing the words &#8220;Not true&#8221;</a> over and over, you must. It&#8217;s finger licking good!</p>
<p><object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'/><param name='movie' value='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=1003&#038;end=1057'/><param name='quality' value='high'/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=1003&#038;end=1057'/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=1003&#038;end=1057' base='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=1003&#038;end=1057' align='middle' height='500' width='410'></embed></object></p>
<p><strong>If Obama truly thought he earned a B+ for his first year&#8217;s performance as Leader of the Free World, why does he need fall guys?</strong> Perhaps it&#8217;s a reflex of studying Saul Alinsky. Perhaps he&#8217;s hedging his bets. Either way, he needs to redirect attention off his unsuccessful first year. Romney wastes no time dismantling Obama&#8217;s excuses for his three favorite go-to blame game targets.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Target 1: Obama blames the GOP by calling them the Party of No. More like the Party of Saying No to the Wrong Things!</strong></li>
</ul>
<p><object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'/><param name='movie' value='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=1124&#038;end=1189'/><param name='quality' value='high'/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=1124&#038;end=1189'/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=1124&#038;end=1189' base='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=1124&#038;end=1189' align='middle' height='500' width='410'></embed></object></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Target 2: Obama blames the American People, the very ones who elected him to the Presidency.</strong></li>
</ul>
<p><object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'/><param name='movie' value='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=1192&#038;end=1318'/><param name='quality' value='high'/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=1192&#038;end=1318'/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=292148-10&#038;start=1192&#038;end=1318' base='http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/assets/swf/' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http://www.c-spanvideo.org/common/services/flashXml.php?programid=219791&#038;style=full&#038;start=1192&#038;end=1318' align='middle' height='500' width='410'></embed></object></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Target 3: Obama blames his predecessor. The current President falls back on the &#8220;Blame Bush&#8221; mantra with almost every breath and certainly as frequently as he utters &#8220;um&#8221; or &#8220;ah&#8221; when the TelePrompTer isn&#8217;t in use.</strong> Think about it. Invoking George W. Bush was toxic during the 2008 election. It didn&#8217;t take too long to realize Obama <strong>is</strong> worse than Bush and that change for the sake of change can win elections but change towards the wrong direction can wreck a country. Who would have thought one year ago we would be talking about a <a href="http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/02/miss_me_yet_billboard_mystery.html""target=_blank">&#8220;Miss Me Yet?&#8221;</a> billboard in Minnesota?<strong> Stay with this clip until the end as the mention of Dick Cheney receives a roar of applause!</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Now for the final morsel of meat, which I hope is the change we&#8217;re looking forward to in the 2010 and 2012 elections.</strong></p>
<p>(For the entire speech, visit <a href="http://www.c-spanarchives.org/program/292148-10""target=_blank">CSPAN</a>.) </p>
<p>It&#8217;s waaaay too early to tell but Hot Air has the latest PPP poll which shows Romney&#8217;s <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/18/ppp-poll-romney-now-biggest-threat-to-obama-head-to-head/""target=_blank">slight edge</a> over Huckabee, Palin and Thune in a one-on-one matchup against Obama. I actually loathe the &#8220;Whose going to be the GOP&#8217;s 2012 candidate?&#8221; question this far away from the Presidential primaries but one thing we learned from Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is that 2 years might be the new campaign standard. If that carries forward to 2012, make sure you have a DVR before then. You don&#8217;t want to be caught fast forward-less during campaign commercials! </p>
<p>Putting aside favorite Presidential hopefuls for now, I look forward to the day Mitt&#8217;s statement below rings true.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>&#8216;Tis the day of the election<br />
And all through my town,<br />
I&#8217;m praying for a Senator,<br />
His name is Scott Brown!</strong></p>
<p>Today is the moment of truth. Today we find out if Massachusetts will send a second shot heard &#8217;round the world, or, at least, heard &#8217;round the nation. Millions of citizens have rallied, from local town hall meetings to Washington, DC. We&#8217;ve raised our voices, hoisted our homemade signs and thrown symbolic tea into our waterways, all while being called despicable, raunchy and crude names by the media lap dogs. However, despite the tricks and schemes of Pelosi, Reid, Obama, SEIU and closed-door compromises sans C-SPAN, current health care legislation hinges on this all-important vote: the Massachusetts Senate seat to replace the departed Ted Kennedy. </p>
<p><strong>Yesterday afternoon we went to a rally outside the TD Garden. We got to shake hands with Scott Brown, speak with him briefly and have our pictures taken.</strong> (It&#8217;s not the first time I&#8217;ve heard Scott Brown speak but it was the first time I shook his hand as I didn&#8217;t have a cold this time!) </p>
<p>A Bruins game was about to begin inside the TD Garden which meant crowds dressed in yellow and black were drifting by us. One man said, to no one in particular, &#8220;Hey, is that Brown over there?&#8221; to which I replied, &#8220;Yeah, he&#8217;s shaking hands with everyone. You should go over and say hello&#8221; and off he went. There were chants of &#8220;Go, Scott, Go!&#8221; and &#8220;41st Vote!&#8221; but what struck me the most was the amount of smiles on people&#8217;s faces. Look, I&#8217;ve lived in Massachusetts long enough to know that smiles outside TD Garden (and its myriad of former names) only occur after a Celtics or Bruins victory. Perhaps that is what was in the air: a prelude to victory. We could almost taste it.</p>

<a href='http://theladypatriot.com/2010/01/19/massachusetts-this-browns-for-you/p1020034/' title='Scott Brown Rally 2'><img width="150" height="150" src="http://theladypatriot.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/P1020034-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Scott Brown with crowd" title="Scott Brown Rally 2" /></a>
<a href='http://theladypatriot.com/2010/01/19/massachusetts-this-browns-for-you/p1020032/' title='Scott Brown Rally 3'><img width="150" height="150" src="http://theladypatriot.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/P1020032-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Scott Brown and Lady_Patriot" title="Scott Brown Rally 3" /></a>
<a href='http://theladypatriot.com/2010/01/19/massachusetts-this-browns-for-you/p1020035_2/' title='Scott Brown Rally 4'><img width="150" height="150" src="http://theladypatriot.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/P1020035_2-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Scott Brown, next MA Senator?" title="Scott Brown Rally 4" /></a>

<p>After the rally, Brown left for North Attleboro and we headed for our relaxing day in the city. <strong>As we turned to walk away, a reporter from the New York Daily News asked if we could answer a few questions.</strong> I read through <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/01/19/2010-01-19_dems_mass_anxiety_party_fights_to_keep_teds_seat_as_voters_head_to_polls_today_i.html""target=_blank">their account</a> of the Boston rally and we weren&#8217;t quoted. No surprises there as the article was pro-Coakley. The questions were what you&#8217;d expect:</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Why does Scott Brown have your support?<br />
<strong>A:</strong> He has promised to be the 41st vote against the current health care reform bill.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> What do you think about a Republican winning Ted Kennedy&#8217;s seat?<br />
<strong>A:</strong> It&#8217;s not Ted Kennedy&#8217;s seat. That&#8217;s not just a line, either. It&#8217;s the truth. This being the people&#8217;s seat has resonated with the state. Once they heard Scott Brown articulate that in the final debate, people began to say, &#8220;Yeah, that&#8217;s right! It&#8217;s <em>our</em> seat!&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> How do you feel about his chances?<br />
<strong>A:</strong> We&#8217;re optimistic. The polls look good and he&#8217;s drawing large crowds.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Why do you think Coakley is trailing?<br />
<strong>A:</strong> For one, she took the Democrat vote for granted. She didn&#8217;t think she needed to work for it. Also, in the same vein, as you are probably aware, the majority of Massachusetts voters do not align with either major party. Independents like to be courted and they haven&#8217;t been courted by Coakley. Scott Brown has made a concerted effort to woo Independents over to his side.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Do you think the people of Massachusetts will turn out for Coakley, though, because they want to do it for Obama, especially since he came to town yesterday?<br />
<strong>A:</strong> No. (My husband and I were laughing as we said No and the reporter started chuckling as well.) </p>
<p><strong>To many who are skeptical about Scott Brown and his conservative credentials, let me keep it simple for you. Our current struggle is to avoid government-run health care.</strong> As you can see from my prior entries, the health care debate is what started this blog and is the thread that runs through my posts. I am determined to do what I can to keep the current health care bill from passing. <strong>I&#8217;ve e-mailed my Senators and Congressmen but this is the one thing, as a resident of Massachusetts, that will actually get attention. I am voting for Scott Brown for the very reason I listed above: He has promised to vote against the current disastrous health care bill.</strong></p>
<p><strong>To those who think Scott Brown is the prototype for 2010 elections, quit wasting your ink.</strong> He is the best candidate for Massachusetts. He may not be the best candidate for the other 49 (or is it 56?) states. If I were back in my native South Carolina, I would want a fiscal <strong>and</strong> social conservative, like Jim DeMint. Jim DeMint is a fantastic Senator. He has served South Carolina well and continues to spearhead efforts to reduce the size of our federal government. As great as I think he is, he would likely have a difficult time winning a Republican <em>primary</em> in a New England state. <strong>This is the beauty of state elections. Each state gets to choose the candidate that best fits <em>their</em> needs, <em>their</em> values and <em>their</em> priorities.</strong></p>
<p><strong> Massachusetts, this Brown&#8217;s for you!</strong> Cast your vote for Scott Brown to send a message to Washington that even the most stubborn amongst them would be hard-pressed to ignore. <strong>What&#8217;s at stake is immeasurable: our freedom to choose our doctor, make our own decisions about treatment and the inalienable right to pursue life.</strong> </p>
<p>That&#8217;s why, for this state senatorial election, I join in unison with fellow Scott Brown supporters to say:<br />
<strong>Go, Scott, Go!<br />
Go, Scott, Go!<br />
Go, Scott, Go!</strong></p>
<p><strong>UPDATE I:</strong> Follow Hot Air&#8217;s ongoing election coverage <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2010/01/19/open-thread-on-ma-election-big-turnout-seen-despite-weather/""target=_blank">here</a> and tune in to local radio (www.wrko.com or www.wtkk.com) for anecdotal coverage from local callers.</p>
<p><strong>UPDATE II:</strong> Join us on <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2010/01/19/open-thread-massachusetts/""target=_blank">Hot Air</a> with the open thread for the election results! </p>
<p><strong>UPDATE III: <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_massachusetts_senate""target=_blank">Scott Brown wins!</a> Scott Brown is now the Senator-elect of Massachusetts! We&#8217;ll send him to DC with a big red bow on his GM truck. It&#8217;s rather fitting, then, that tomorrow is President Obama&#8217;s 1st year anniversary as president. Our gift to him is, of course, Scott Brown. To reflect a sentiment familiar with the First Lady, for the first time in my adult life, I am proud to be a Massachusetts resident.</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The current health care debate has something in common with basketball. Let me explain.</p>
<p>You should know I like to watch basketball. No, not the NBA. I truly loathe watching the NBA. I prefer men&#8217;s NCAA basketball. It&#8217;s technical, fast-paced and those guys play for their schools, not their pockets, yet.</p>
<p>I was watching one of my favorite teams last week and one of their stars accidentally tipped a rebound into the other team&#8217;s basket. They were up by almost 20 points at the time so it was treated like no big deal. Even I said something like, &#8220;Oops! That&#8217;s not supposed to happen!&#8221; laughing as I wondered how I had escaped high school not doing something like that. (My coach called me &#8220;Butter fingers&#8221; by the way.)</p>
<p>The game goes on and the other team begins to catch up by playing solid defense and hitting 3s. Before you know it, they take the lead. As the final minutes begin to tick there are several lead changes. If you&#8217;ve ever watched a close game, you know how much can change in &#8220;a basketball minute.&#8221; </p>
<p><strong>My team ended up losing by 2 points. 2 points!</strong> Yes, those pesky 2 points that were unearned when my guy, the center, tipped the ball into the other team&#8217;s basket. It was no sweat when they were up 20 points. But when they lose by 2 points you don&#8217;t think about points missed at the free throw line, off-balanced jump shots or lazy fouls. No, you think about those 2 points that were put in the <strong>other team&#8217;s net</strong> by your team&#8217;s big guy. He might as well handed over those 2 points on a silver platter. </p>
<p>The GOP is acting like the basketball center on this health care debate. Whether they play defense or offense, it doesn&#8217;t matter. The Democrats have a majority and can do whatever they want, as long as they stick together and find consensus. Does America like a one-party system? We&#8217;ll know for sure in 2010. </p>
<p>Until then, the GOP needs to make sure they don&#8217;t accidentally tip health care in the Democrat&#8217;s favor to take it over by passing amendments that make the bill more tolerable by the likes of Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Joe Lieberman or Ben Nelson (see Ed Morrissey&#8217;s <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/12/07/susan-collins-a-no-on-public-option/""target=_blank">article</a> on HotAir). They already did this in the House with the amendment to keep abortion from being funded by federal dollars, forgetting the long range view that the amendment doesn&#8217;t have to be adopted during Conference and likely will not. The same goes for these Senate amendments. (Follow Erick Erickson as he monitors the GOP&#8217;s attempt to <a href="http://redstate.com/index.php?tag=health-care""target=_blank">fix the bill</a> on Red State.) </p>
<p>A spoonful of sugar may help the medicine go down, but they&#8217;ll spit that sugar out in conference and we&#8217;ll all be stuck with government-run health care, which is not really health care at all.</p>
<p>GOP, you need to focus, or you&#8217;ll end up looking like this:</p>
<p><object width="480" height="400" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" id="ordie_player_52f32fc8eb"><param name="movie" value="http://player.ordienetworks.com/flash/fodplayer.swf" /><param name="flashvars" value="key=52f32fc8eb" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed width="480" height="400" flashvars="key=52f32fc8eb" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" quality="high" src="http://player.ordienetworks.com/flash/fodplayer.swf" name="ordie_player_52f32fc8eb" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object>
<div style="text-align:left;font-size:x-small;margin-top:0;width:480px;"><a href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/52f32fc8eb/wrong-basket-from-mr-sports" title="from Mr. Sports">Wrong Basket</a> &#8211; watch more <a href="http://www.funnyordie.com/" title="on Funny or Die">funny videos</a></div>
<p>P.S. Since I don&#8217;t like the NBA, I thought this was the perfect clip. Wish I could have found something of better quality but the replay is nice. There was no way I was going to show you a clip of my team&#8217;s center. I like him and don&#8217;t want to embarrass him. But take note. If you&#8217;re a Senator and you aren&#8217;t listening to the American people and you pass this behemoth of a take over health care bill, we will all know who you are. You will need to look for new work when your term is up for reelection, be it 2010, 2012 or 2014. We will not forget!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Yesterday on Fort Hood, 13 people were killed and 28 were wounded when a lone gunman, Military Psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, opened fire in a readiness facility on the Texas Army base. He was brought down by <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/11/06/the-woman-who-stopped-a-mass-murderer/""target=_blank">Sgt. Kimberly Munley</a>. Both are still hospitalized and listed as being in stable condition. </p>
<p>In light of reports that Hasan was saying &#8220;Allahu Akbar&#8221; as he executed this horrific killing spree, I have been seeking answers from the politically correct hawks on Twitter: <strong>When is it OK to mention the religion of a mass murderer?</strong></p>
<p>Many of my Twitter friends have commented that if the person were an evangelical Christian, the media would call for a week-long foray into the Church and its &#8220;harmful effects&#8221; on its subjects. We&#8217;ve been there, done that. Right now, though, I am not interested in how the center-left or left-fringe journalists will cover it. I am more interested in wondering where the politically correct draw the line. </p>
<p><strong>By the standards of the PC Police, what are the instances in which a person&#8217;s religion, or lack thereof, can be considered an integral part of the story?</strong> Doesn&#8217;t ignoring it create the elephant in the room? Is that the goal of being politically correct: to extract enough content from our national conversations that we end up in a back room secretly discussing the important topics of the day? </p>
<p>I would venture that it&#8217;s not merely one&#8217;s religion, but one&#8217;s worldview through the lens of specific aspects within one&#8217;s faith that highlight how a person thinks, feels and acts. We can argue night and day about what certain religious texts say about nonbelievers and violence. There is merit in having those discussions. However, we need to move beyond the text and discover on a granular scale how those texts are translated and applied. </p>
<p>Who should do that? It should start with the religious leaders who are responsible for the growth and maturity of its converts. I doubt it would take much conversing to find out if a person is headed down a destructive path or a constructive one. Do we know who Hasan&#8217;s inner circle of believers were? Do we know his religious instructors? Do we know if he ever spoke of violence-related matters? Somewhere along the way he must have said or done something that would cause alarm. Do we have within our religious tenets an ability to detect those red flags? If not, then we have a serious problem.</p>
<p><strong>Sunlight is the best disinfectant and it&#8217;s time we tell the truth, the whole truth, and not the watered-down, politically correct half-truths.</strong></p>
<p>Below are the President&#8217;s remarks. It sounds as if he wasn&#8217;t notified about the shootings until after he began his statement. No, for some inexplicable reason, he planned on mentioning other things first.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Nominations for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize were closed less than two weeks after Barack Obama had been inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States. What exactly had Obama accomplished?</p>
<p>The Associated Press, known for its glowing coverage of Barack Obama, is skeptical. As Jennifer Loven of the AP writes, <a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/news/ap/politics/2009/Oct/09/analysis__he_won__but_for_what_.html""target=_blank">“The Nobel committee, it seems, had the audacity to hope that he&#8217;ll eventually produce a record worthy of its prize.”</a> Even George Stephanopoulos of ABC News is collecting a list of “Best Obama-Nobel Jokes” on his <a href="http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2009/10/best-obamanobel-jokes.html""target=_blank">blog</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Ah, so it’s not about what he has done, it is about what he has <em>promised</em> to do! Apparently, the road to the Nobel Peace Prize is paved with good intentions.</strong></p>
<p>I don’t normally watch The Today Show on NBC. However, last night I had watched The Office so when I turned my television on this morning, imagine my surprise when I witnessed this exchange between Matt Lauer and David Gregory.</p>
<p>LAUER: So, what you’re saying in some ways, and, again, not to be rude here, or sarcastic, that in some ways <strong><em>he wins this award for not being George W. Bush.</em></strong></p>
<div><iframe height="339" width="425" src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/33238192#33238192" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
<p style="font-size:11px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #999; margin-top: 5px; background: transparent; text-align: center; width: 425px;">Visit msnbc.com for <a style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;" href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com">Breaking News</a>, <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032507" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">World News</a>, and <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032072" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">News about the Economy</a></p>
</div>
<p><strong>“His conservative critics will say, a lot of sizzle here, but not a lot of accomplishment.”</strong> Hey David Gregory, it&#8217;s not just conservatives! <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/09/even-mainstream-media-stunned-skeptical-over-nobel-peace-prize/""target=_blank">HotAir</a> breaks down the reaction from the mainstream media. While were on the topic of the media, NBC, let me clue you in on a non-secret. This is exactly what we were saying during Obama’s campaign for President. He hadn’t accomplished anything noteworthy in the Illinois State Senate except managing to cast an abundance of “present” votes. He was a Senator in the US Congress for 2 years before running for President, again, with nothing of accomplishment to note. He merely gave a rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention. I suppose if giving a rousing speech at a Party Convention is all it takes, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin should receive the next Nobel Peace Prize.</p>
<p><strong>Speaking of Obama speeches, here are a few highlights from his speech this morning.</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>Well, this is not how I expected to wake up this morning.<br />
After I received the news, Malia walked in and said, &#8220;Daddy, you won the Nobel Peace Prize, and it is Bo&#8217;s birthday.&#8221;<br />
And then Sasha added, &#8220;Plus, we have a three-day weekend coming up.&#8221;<br />
So it&#8217;s &#8212; it&#8217;s good to have kids to keep things in perspective. </p></blockquote>
<p>It’s not that Obama’s little girls commented on current events on their family calendar. A dog’s birthday and a day off from school are rather exciting moments for children. But Malia and Sasha did not write Obama’s speech. He is the one who saw it fitting to include winning the Nobel Peace Prize in the same sentence as his dog’s birthday and the Columbus Day weekend. </p>
<p><strong>BO gets a new bone, Obama receives a medallion, the girls don’t have to go to school on Monday and for the second time in her adult life, Michelle Obama is proud to be an American. What an exciting time for the Obama family!</strong></p>
<blockquote><p> I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel Committee.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Surprised? You’re not the only one! </strong>Millions of people throughout the globe are just as perplexed. For a short moment, the world is united! But Obama is humbled? That’s a considerable stretch. </p>
<blockquote><p>Let me be clear, I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations. </p></blockquote>
<p>Those of us who follow Barack Obama’s speeches are keenly aware that when he says, “Let me be clear” or “Make no mistake” that what follows 90% of the time could earn him a <strong>Pinnochio award</strong>. Perhaps we’re witnessing the other 10%. After SNL’s skit last week (embedded below), even Obama knows the Left is aware that he has no recognizable achievements.</p>
<blockquote><p>To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who&#8217;ve been honored by this prize&#8230; </p></blockquote>
<p><strong>I’d like to expand it and say he doesn’t deserve to be in the company of those who were <a href="http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/10/meet_the_people_who_were_passe.asp""target=_blank">nominated</a>.</strong</p>
<blockquote><p> And I know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it&#8217;s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.</p></blockquote>
<p>There’s the money shot! It’s not what Obama has accomplished, as even he admits, but to provide momentum for his agenda. I see. The Norwegians want us to swallow government-controlled health care, spend more on energy through cap-and-tax legislation and never seek energy independence because they’ve awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to our President? Nice try, but we’re stubborn about our freedoms. </p>
<blockquote><p>We cannot tolerate a world in which nuclear weapons spread to more nations and in which the terror of a nuclear holocaust endangers more people. And that&#8217;s why we&#8217;ve begun to take concrete steps to pursue a world without nuclear weapons: because all nations have the right to pursue peaceful nuclear power, but all nations have the responsibility to demonstrate their peaceful intentions.</p></blockquote>
<p>But we’ll talk to Iran without preconditions!</p>
<blockquote><p>I am the commander in chief of a country that&#8217;s responsible for ending a war and working in another theater to confront a ruthless adversary that directly threatens the American people and our allies.</p></blockquote>
<p>Usually, Commanders-in-Chief are responsible for <strong>winning</strong> wars, not just ending them. I’m glad you have your eyes on the prize. My mistake, wrong prize.</p>
<blockquote><p> I&#8217;m also aware that we are dealing with the impact of a global economic crisis that has left millions of Americans looking for work. </p></blockquote>
<p>I thought his administration, through spending billions in stimulus funding, had “saved or created” thousands of jobs.</p>
<p>I have to stop here. Reading this dribble from Obama’s speech is getting in the way of my enjoyment of the laugh-fest currently unfolding on Twitter. If you&#8217;d like a solid play-by-play, including a good April 1st thought by a White House aide, visit <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/09/obama-wins-nobel-peace-prize-no-really/""target=_blank">HotAir</a>. The comments are full of hilarity, too.</p>
<p><strong>Good job, Nobel Peace Prize Committee. On the heels of losing the 2016 Summer Olympics bid for Chicago after traipsing to Copenhagen and back, Obama is again a laughing stock of epic proportions.</strong> </p>
<p>For the first time in my adult life, I may actually stay up to watch SNL’s opening sketch to see what they do with such rich material.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Obama has gone to great lengths to demonstrate his lack of basic medical knowledge. For instance, if your cardiologist recommends a pacemaker, Obama says you might need to take a pain pill instead. </p>
<p>Wow, I didn’t realize taking Tylenol aided in regulating one’s heartbeat! Is there anything Tylenol <em>can’t</em> do? Do Advil, Ibuprofen and their generic brand counterparts <em>also</em> correct irregular heartbeats? If so, they really should update their labels! <em>New commercials, stat!</em></p>
<p><strong>Perhaps it is unfair of me to use my biology degree and basic understanding of physiology against Dr. Obama, er, I mean <em>President</em> Obama. </strong>Then again, he has a Surgeon General and an entire Health and Human Services agency who I am sure would be happy to clue him in on matters of cardiology, or at least refer him to someone who does (that is, if they&#8217;re &#8220;into&#8221; referrals). </p>
<p>At the very least, he could do a quick search of “pacemaker” on WebMD or some other medical website to easily ascertain that pain relievers are only necessary during post-op following the insertion of a pacemaker not for the actual function of regulating a heartbeat. Yes, my doctor friends abhor medical websites, but Obama could at least consult one to figure out the difference between pain killers and major medical procedures. </p>
<p><strong>Obama likes to equate himself to Abraham Lincoln. Perhaps he should acquaint himself with Lincoln’s famous quip in paraphrasing Proverbs 17:28, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” </strong>Obama should heed this sound counsel, most especially when discussing matters he knows absolutely nothing about, like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-dQfb8WQvo&#038;feature=related""target=_blank">pacemakers</a>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhNeGYYPgIE""target=_blank">tonsillectomies</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG56B2et4M8""target=_blank">amputations</a>. (All three videos are below.)</p>
<p>Perhaps Obama refuses to understand basic cardiology since cardiologists are … <em>wait for it</em> … <strong>specialists!</strong> What’s so terrible about specialists? According to Obama, specialists are the arch-enemy of the general practitioner. </p>
<p><strong>Silly me. I thought GPs worked <em>with</em> specialists, offering referrals so patients could receive expert help for specific medical conditions that are well past the &#8220;preventative treatment&#8221; phase</strong>. Let&#8217;s say a GP discovered preliminary symptoms related to heart disease during a routine office visit. He or she may refer a patient to a (gasp!) cardiologist for specific heart health care. The cardiologist, upon further examination of the patient, orders a stress test and, as a result, performs angioplasty. Are we to expect GPs to begin performing angioplasties? Imagine your primary care physician&#8217;s waiting room then! </p>
<p>Darn those young medical students, buried in heaps of student loan debt, who apparently hold their noses up to the common folk by furthering their education and completing multi-year residencies concentrating on specific medical conditions that require specific medical expertise. Darn them all for inserting pacemakers to people who would apparently be just fine with a pain killer. Darn them all for causing angioplasties to occur in hospital operating rooms rather than in Exam Room #4.</p>
<p><strong>Obama, put away your toy stethoscope and end the silly <a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/10/05/obama_doctors_understand_importance_of_health_care_reform.html""target=_blank">photo-ops</a>.</strong> Doctors don’t wear white coats outside the office, unless of course, <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/news/politics/obama_health_care_photo_op_KOV0zdZCzeTSczGWcTVsyK""target=_blank">you supply them</a>. </p>
<p>Americans are not idiots. We are not so easily fooled. We are tired of the shenanigans and we are growing weary of your incompetence. The American people elected a Commander-in-Chief not a Doctor-in-Chief. Why don&#8217;t you concentrate on the war in Afghanistan and let doctors stick to medicine.</p>
<p><strong><em>Paging real doctors! Paging real doctors!</em></strong> Oh, here&#8217;s one. <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/06/the-white-house-department-of-white-coats/""target=_blank">HotAir</a> has a piece on a doctor who refused to attend the photo-op at the White House. Good for him. He speaks out about the invitation to &#8220;discuss&#8221; current health care proposals. I suppose by &#8220;discuss&#8221; Obama really means, &#8220;I talk, you listen&#8221; because there wasn&#8217;t a lot of &#8220;discussing&#8221; going on, merely an empty speech accompanied by a few props clad in white coats. If only Nurse Ratched had made an appearance.</p>

<p><strong>For those of you who don&#8217;t remember what Obama said about pacemakers, tonsillectomies and amputations, here&#8217;s a trip down memory lane.</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Barack <strong><u>O</u></strong>bama, Michelle <strong><u>O</u></strong>bama and <strong><u>O</u></strong>prah Winfrey were among the delegation that traveled to Copenhagen (in two separate jumbo jets) to pitch Chicago as the host of the 2016 Olympics. </p>
<p>Obama doesn’t have time to talk to General McKiernan in Afghanistan (his own appointee) regarding his request for more troops, economic and political aid but he can drop everything to fly 4000 miles to participate in a 45 minute presentation. (Watch Obama&#8217;s presentation on HotAir <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/02/video-obama-makes-his-pitch-to-the-olympic-committee/""target=_blank">here</a>.)</p>
<p><strong>Did Obama really think he could trump the last 9 months of his &#8220;Apologizing for America World Tour&#8221; by making a 45 minute appeal to grant an Olympics bid to a city that&#8217;s so &#8220;great&#8221; it&#8217;s called Second City?</strong> Even in his attempt, he couldn&#8217;t keep himself from telling the IOC that America basically <em>needed</em> the Olympics to restore its good name. In response to a question, he actually said:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Over the last several years sometimes that fundamental truth about the United States has been lost. One of the legacies of this Olympic Games would be the restoration of that understanding of what the United States is all about and a recognition of how we are linked to the world.” </p></blockquote>
<p>In short, help us get our groove back, IOC!</p>
<p>In this particular scenario, Michelle Obama is the worse of the two offenders. You’ve seen the audacious quote from her speech to the Chicago 2016 bid team (bold italics, mine):</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;As much of a <em><strong>sacrifice</strong></em> as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days, so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.&#8221; </p></blockquote>
<p>Michelle Obama says participating in this presentation is a “sacrifice” but doesn’t exactly explain what’s so sacrificial about packing designer clothes, flying on a private jumbo jet or getting away for a few days with Oprah Winfrey on the <a href="http://cnsnews.com/news/article/54762""target=_blank">taxpayer’s dime</a>. I would call that an extraordinary get-away unlike any I’d ever experienced! &#8220;Sacrificial&#8221; wouldn’t even make the list of 1,000,000 adjectives!</p>
<p>Michelle Obama wouldn’t know “sacrifice” if it looked her in the face, wearing fatigues, waving an American flag, surrounded by little boys and girls going without their Mommy and Daddy while they fight in an ongoing war in two countries. </p>
<p><strong>If she thinks this trip is a sacrifice then she is out of touch with the American people. So much, in fact, it’s almost painful.</strong> Is she ignorant of the climbing unemployment rate? Is she callous to the situation of our military families? Does she know the sacrifices made every day by everyday Americans to put food on the table, to send their kids to school, to make ends meet while she and her husband spend, spend, spend? She should just get it over with and say to the deployed military personnel, military families, unemployed Americans and the fiscally strained, <strong><em>“Let them eat cake.”</em></strong></p>
<p>HotAir grabbed CNN’s <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/02/comedy-gold-cnn-anchor-in-utter-disbelief-as-chicago-is-eliminated/""target=_blank">shock and dismay</a> as the IOC makes the announcement. As the anchor grasps for words, I find myself hoping the jaw-dropping is repeated in newsrooms around American in 2010 when the out-of-touch Democrats get booted from Washington.</p>
<p>As @Doc_O said on Twitter, &#8220;Cheer up, Axelrod! Obama failed to bring the Olympics to Chicago in 2016, but he&#8217;ll bring the Republicans to Washington in 2010.&#8221; I sure hope so, as long as they&#8217;re conservative Republicans and not RINOs in the form of McCain, Graham or Snowe.</p>
<p><strong>What can we learn from this?</strong></p>
<p><strong> Obama will spend, spend, spend. Michelle will go on lavish overseas trips and spend, spend, spend. The taxpayers will continue to pay for the spending sprees. What we&#8217;ll receive in return: Zero. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.</strong> </p>
<p><strong>Wait, that&#8217;s not exactly right. We&#8217;ll &#8220;get&#8221; something all right: a huge deficit unlike any we&#8217;ve ever seen coupled with skyrocketing inflation. Yes, Bush ran up the deficit in 8 years. It only took Obama 8 months to triple it.</strong></p>
<p><strong>As Obama flies back to America I hope he&#8217;s thinking about his next two losses: government-run health care and the hoax of cap-and-tax.</strong></p>
<p><strong><em>In the meantime, someone hand Valerie Jarrett a Kleenex.</em></strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Massachusetts law stated that in the event a Senator could no longer perform his or her duties, the state was to hold a special election to determine a permanent replacement. <strong>Even before Ted Kennedy passed away, local newspapers and affiliates were speculating whether or not the state legislature would once again change state law to accommodate the state&#8217;s progressive, leftist, statist agenda.</strong> Ted Kennedy then issued a letter requesting the law be changed so that the Governor could quickly appoint a temporary replacement to DC and champion health care. In Teddy&#8217;s own words, health care was &#8220;the cause of his life&#8221; even though silly me thought the cause of his life was escaping the consequences of July 18, 1969. But you can read more about that <a href="http://theladypatriot.com/2009/08/26/ted-kennedy-mary-jo-and-rip/""target=_blank">here</a>. </p>
<p><strong>I never questioned whether or not the state legislature would acquiesce. I knew what would happen. I was here when it happened once before.</strong></p>
<p>You see, when <strong>John Kerry and John Edwards</strong> (you know, the father of the love-child sometimes referred to as <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/03/AR2009050300835.html?hpid=moreheadlines""target=_blank">&#8220;furniture expense&#8221;</a>) were on the national ticket for the Democratic Party in 2004, people here with their Kerry-Edwards bumper stickers <em>actually thought they&#8217;d win!</em> How laughable. </p>
<p><strong>Even though John Forbes Kerry had the initials JFK, I knew the country wouldn&#8217;t be fooled for several reasons: </strong></p>
<ol>
1. He wasn&#8217;t able to have &#8220;JFK&#8221; printed on the ballots.<br />
2. His charm is as winning as Lurch from the Addams family.<br />
3. In explaining his opposition to the supplemental funding bill for US troops he famously quipped, &#8220;I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.”<br />
4. Do you really need more reasons? Fine. Check out the Top Ten Flip-Flops as compiled by <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/29/politics/main646435.shtml""target=_blank">CBS</a>.</ol>
<p>The people of Massachusetts, however, seriously thought John Kerry would win! In order to keep then Governor Mitt Romney from appointing a Republican to replace John Kerry, the state legislature changed the law to remove the Governor&#8217;s authority to name a replacement. </p>
<p><strong>What goes around, comes around. Unless you&#8217;re Massachusetts where laws are for suckers! </strong>You don&#8217;t need to follow the law. No, you just <em>change the law</em>. Sure, Barack Obama was guaranteed this state by having a D after his name but what sealed the deal was his catch phrase, &#8220;Change you can believe in!&#8221; Massachusetts should coin that as their official state motto or at least add it as a license plate option.</p>
<p>Just this week they changed the law back. This morning, Governor Deval Patrick (whose campaign slogan, thanks to David Axelrod, was &#8220;Together We Can!&#8221;) announced that <a href="http://www.jfklibrary.org/JFK+Library+and+Museum/Kennedy+Library+Foundation/Board+of+Directors/Paul+G.+Kirk+Jr+Chairman.htm""target=_blank">Paul Kirk</a>, former Kennedy staffer and longtime Kennedy friend, would serve as a temporary replacement. </p>
<p>Kirk is headed to Washington to represent Ted Kennedy and vote the way Kennedy would on all things health care, cap and trade, student loans and whatever other government-controlled bill is up for a vote. The special election will occur on January 19th and I&#8217;ll be doing what I can to keep another Kennedy-Kerry-Dukakis type out of office. In the meantime, I&#8217;ll just try to keep sane with all the candidate ads that have already begun to run on every single channel here in Massachusetts. <strong>It&#8217;s going to be a long 117 days!</strong></p>
<p>We know how well the Illinois appointee Roland Burris is doing in Washington. For instance, would Paul Kirk vote to defund ACORN or would he go the way of Burris? <strong>We know how he&#8217;ll vote on everything else. </strong></p>

		<description><![CDATA[Is Nancy Pelosi inciting people by equating them to Nazis and then calling them un-American? Before you answer that question, you have to ask another: Inciting them to what? Inciting them to anger? Yes. Inciting them to violence? No. The American people can handle your slander, Nancy Pelosi. They can handle your lies. They can even handle the "deer in the headlights" look on your face from all the botox. They do see what you are doing, though, and that is an attempt to distract from your poor record in the House, from your hyper-partisan antics, your disdain for the American people and your inability to hold accountable people like Charlie Rangel. You're third in line to the Presidency <em>but</em> you are hardly capable of running a country when you can't keep your own House in order. As a nation, we expect more from our leaders. Step it up, Speaker Pelosi, or step down.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Speaker of the House, trying as hard as she may, was unable to squeak out a tear from her eyes when referencing the violence in San Francisco in the late 1970s to convey her fears about violent rhetoric being used in today&#8217;s political theater (assuming there is, which there isn&#8217;t). Sure, you could go for the easy target and say her inability to produce tears was from the amount of botox she&#8217;s had injected (<em>Clostridium botulinum tearus interuptus</em>) but I have a few other theories.</p>
<p><u><strong>Theory #1</u>: She takes the low road and equates all criticism to violent rhetoric.</strong></p>
<p><u><strong>Theory #2</u>: She needs you to think criticisms of her inability to lead or build consensus are waged solely by discredited crazy people.</strong></p>
<p><strong><u>Theory #3</u>: Choking up worked for Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire.</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at what she said:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw &#8212; I saw this myself in the late &#8217;70s in San Francisco, this kind of &#8212; of rhetoric was very frightening and it gave &#8212; it created a climate in which we &#8212; violence took place.</p>
<p>And so I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made, understanding that &#8212; that some of the people &#8212; the ears it is falling on are not as balanced as the person making the statement might assume.</p>
<p>But, again, our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe, but I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause.&#8221;</p>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>Let&#8217;s look at that final section a little closer:</strong><br />
&#8220;Our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe&#8230;&#8221; Yes, Nancy, I agree with you wholeheartedly.</p>
<p><strong>Ah, but then there&#8217;s the but. A big but.</strong><br />
&#8220;&#8230; but I also think&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>Try explaining &#8220;but&#8221; to a young person. It&#8217;s a fun exercise. I remember my nephew remarking to my niece about her Mario Kart skills on the Nintendo Wii last Christmas, &#8220;You&#8217;re a good driver, but you run in to everything.&#8221; My husband explained to him that when you use the word &#8220;but&#8221; it negates everything you&#8217;ve said before it. He asked, &#8220;What does &#8216;negate&#8217; mean?&#8221; &#8220;Cancels out.&#8221; &#8220;Oh!&#8221; He then proceeded to put to use what he learned &#8230; <em>all night</em>. &#8220;That&#8217;s a cool character <em>but</em> he sure is ugly.&#8221; &#8220;That&#8217;s a fast car <em>but</em> not as fast as mine!&#8221; &#8220;You&#8217;re funny <em>but</em> your jokes are pretty lame.&#8221; We told him it didn&#8217;t always have to be a negative thing. Then he said, &#8220;I don&#8217;t like vegetables <em>but</em> this is good broccoli!&#8221; (Disclaimer: He does like vegetables.) He said he&#8217;d never look at the word &#8220;but&#8221; the same again. It was a proud moment for me &#8212; so long as he uses it to understand English grammar and not for put downs with his classmates, teammates or sisters! I&#8217;m afraid my ten year old nephew knows more about sentence structure than Nancy Pelosi <strong><em>but</em></strong> she is a politician and politicians love to use the word &#8220;but&#8221; to reroute their message towards what they really think.</p>
<p><strong>So what does Nancy Pelosi really think?</strong><br />
&#8220;&#8230; but I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause.&#8221;</p>
<p>I remember when attendees to the health care town hall meetings became even more frustrated. It was shortly after August 5, 2009, when Nancy Pelosi was asked if she thought town hall meetings consisted of a genuine grassroots opposition. Not only did she say they were astroturf, she said they were <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGzAi4vZqYI""target=_blank">carrying swastikas and symbols like that</a>. Excuse me? Town halls were flooded by local constituents wearing swastikas? Really? Where are those pictures? That&#8217;s quite a charge. I&#8217;d like to see proof of town hall meetings where people are carrying swastikas and symbols like that. I&#8217;d like to see the people around them tolerating it. The <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_LaRouche""target=_blank">LaRouche people</a> are known for adding Hitler&#8217;s mustache to U.S. Presidents, including President Obama. I don&#8217;t remember Speaker Pelosi&#8217;s concern when LaRouche had pictures of President Bush as Hitler. As a US citizen, I don&#8217;t want any US President, current or former, being depicted as Hitler. I&#8217;m consistent like that. No, those aren&#8217;t &#8220;public option&#8221; opponents, Nancy. You might know that if the New York Times did a little <strong><em>investigative journalism</em></strong>. Heck, access to Wikipedia can take you pretty far. A phone call to their offices would seal the deal. Perhaps you&#8217;re just in denial that the founder of LaRouche ran for President 8 times: once with the Labor Party and 7 times with the Democratic Party.</p>
<p>A mere two days after she accused health care opponents of carrying swastikas, she penned an op-ed with House Majority Leader, Stenny Hoyer, where she called health care protesters un-American. In an earlier post entitled &#8220;Health Care: The Fight&#8217;s Not Over&#8221; I said: </p>
<blockquote><p> Why do Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer call opponents of the current Health Care bill <a href="http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2009/08/unamerican-attacks-cant-derail-health-care-debate-.html""target=_blank">“un-American”</a> when Pelosi told the anti-war protesters of Code Pink who interrupted one of her meetings in 2006 that “there is nothing more articulate, more eloquent, to a member of Congress than the voice of his or her constituent.” She goes on to say she likes dissenters. Listen to it <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2j6U0SCyxI""target=_blank>here</a>. Did Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer think they could quiet the American people by referring to us as un-American? If their goal was to douse the enthusiasm against the bill or to assuage the doubts we the people have towards our government’s ability to run anything well, it’s obvious they have only managed to add fuel to the fire.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Is Nancy Pelosi inciting people by equating them to Nazis and then calling them un-American? Before you answer that question, you have to ask another: Inciting them to what? Inciting them to anger? Yes. Inciting them to violence? No.</strong> The American people can handle your slander, Nancy Pelosi. They can handle your lies. They can even handle the &#8220;deer in the headlights&#8221; look on your face from all the botox. They do see what you are doing, though, and that is an attempt to distract from your poor record in the House, from your hyper-partisan antics, your disdain for the American people and your inability to hold accountable people like Charlie Rangel. You&#8217;re third in line to the Presidency <em>but</em> you are hardly capable of running a country when you can&#8217;t keep your own House in order.</p>
<p><strong>Now let&#8217;s watch her delivery (no actual tears):</strong></p>
<p><object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/u46QoT_eNQ8&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/u46QoT_eNQ8&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object></p>
<p><strong>Would Pelosi have fared better if she had taken a cue from Hillary Clinton and let her voice waver a little longer?</strong></p>
<p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6qgWH89qWks&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0\"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6qgWH89qWks&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></p>
<p><strong>Pete Sessions (R-TX) cuts to the chase when responding to Nancy Pelosi: </strong> <em>(bold emphasis, mine)</em></p>
<blockquote><p> &#8220;Speaker Pelosi is right that the American people are upset, but it is her own words that continue to fuel voter frustration in America,&#8221; said Sessions, R-Texas. &#8220;<strong>No longer content with criticizing concerned citizens for being &#8216;un-American,&#8217; the Speaker is now likening genuine opposition to assassination. Such insulting rhetoric not only undermines the credibility of her office, but it underscores the desperate attempt by her party to divert attention away from a failing agenda.</strong> During one of the most important policy debates of our time, the American people have been completely abandoned by those elected representatives under her control. <strong>Voters are justifiably frustrated with Washington, and the Speaker&#8217;s verbal assault on voters accomplishes nothing other than furthering her reputation for being wildly out of touch with the American people.</strong>&#8220;</p>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>Nancy Pelosi should concentrate on bringing more decorum to the House of Representatives by:</p>
<ul>
- not accusing everyday Americans of carrying Nazi symbols,<br />
- not calling government-run health care opponents un-American and<br />
- not equating valid concerns within the health care debate as inciting violence.
</ul>
<p></strong><br />
<strong>As a nation, we expect more from our leaders. Step it up, Speaker Pelosi, or step down.</strong></p>
